Story Game:Main Page
From The Fifth World
The Fifth World Story Game will guide you and your friends towards telling the stories of your feral descendants: neo-tribal animists who have become native to the reforested ruins of the place you live now, four hundred years after the collapse of civilization. Don't worry, you won't need to spend weeks or months studying traditional cultures or ecological science. The rules exist precisely to guide you along. You'll find yourself slipping into feral patterns of thought without trying, just by following the rules. So you can focus on your character, your story, and the relationships that knit them all together.

[edit] Current Status
- Current Version: 0.4.1
- Status: Beta. Public playtesting can begin! The first draft needs some better explanations and some better spirits, blessings and curses, but enough now exists for playtesting.
[edit] What You Need to Play
- Players. You will need at least two players. The more players you have, the longer the game will go. Optimally, you'll want to find 3-6 players.
- Switches. Each player will need some kind of switch. Anything that can indicate one of two states will do. You can use the heads or tails of a coin, two sides of a card, one of two colored beads, whatever you prefer. One option will indicate "Open," and the other will indicate "Closed." So long as a player can make that choice and hide it, any switch will do.
- Counters. You'll use counters both to mark the strength of your relationships, and to mark your personal power or effectiveness, called your "will pool," the number of counters you have that you have not invested in a particular relationship. These work best if you can stack them.
- Character Sheet. Each player will need a character sheet and something to write with.
- Map. You'll need a large, central writing space to play. The vinyl game mats used in many other roleplaying games will work well here, but so could an area of loose dirt near the campfire.
[edit] Game Types
- One-shot. You can play a one-shot in a single, four-hour session of gaming.
- Campaign. You play out the stories of a campaign over several game sessions.
