Legumes

Legumes, peas, and beans encompass a large family of flowering plants, including trees, shrubs, and perennial or annual herbaceous plants. They often play a crucial role in the environment as nitrogen fixers. These plants have co-evolved with bacteria that live in and around their roots, which can return nitrogen to the soil. In the Three Sisters guild, for example, beans help replenish the ntirogen consumed by maize.
