Dogbane
Dogbane constitutes a genus of plants in the family Apocynaceae, native to North America and Eurasia. Dogbane contains a poison that can harm many animals, including wolves (hence the name) and humans, but it also provides a critical food supply for other species, especially in the order Lepidoptera, including queen and monarch butterflies.
#Human usage
Despite its toxins, humans in North America have used dogbane for fiber and cordage for millennia. With its unintentional export around the world, it has become a common source for cordage for communities worldwide.
