Shark

The shark is a broad category encompassing many different species of fish with cartilaginous skeletons. The best-known species of this super-order are large and carnivorous apex predators. These sharks are known for their intelligence, longevity, and sleep swimming.

Thought to be among the oldest vertebrates on Earth, some -- but not all -- species of shark survived mass extinction and ocean acidification. They remain relatively rare examples of fish in the warmed, acidified, cephalopod-rich oceans of the Fifth World.

#Human usage

Sharks are sometimes hunted for their meat. Their teeth are often used in jewelry.

#Specialization

A community specializing in relationship with sharks will invariably live on or near the sea. These people may claim descent from native Hawaiians or Samoans, for whom sharks are an important part of their culture and folklore.
