Sand Cat

The sand cat lives in the grasslands of northern Africa and the Middle East. Formerly native to deserts, the sand cat adapted as the world got wetter, helped by a lack of other cats with which to compete.

Like other species of cat, the sand cat has interbred with the domesticated cats that spread out from former cities. However, the relative slowness of the climatic shift helped it become the dominant feline species across the Sahara before that land became habitable to other species of cat.
